Beacon Park benefitted from some new planting as part of the Making Space for Nature project in 2021. To keep the habitats in good shape there is a regular volunteering session once a month to focus on one element of the planting scheme.
Most of the work involves weeding, pruning, raking and occasionally new planting.
Local people and wildlife appreciate this extra impetus over and above what the gardening team are able to deliver.
What's involved?
Basic gardening knowledge would be useful but not essential.
Karen is very happy to run sessions which are simple tasks involving maintaining the wildlife friendly planting beds and the orchard area in good condition.
We tend to meet at around 10am finishing at noon one Friday a month.
Why get involved?
Council budgets are never enough to keep parks in good condition. By volunteering it feels very positive by giving back to our community and helping our pollinators by providing valuable habitat. It's also much nicer than going to a gym to keep fit!
