Home Library Service Volunteer

Purpose of the role:  Help bring the library to people who are unable to visit in person. As a Home Library Service Volunteer, you will support customers in the community by delivering library materials and providing a friendly, regular point of contact.

What's involved?

Key activities

  1. Select, issue, and deliver books, audiobooks, and other library materials to customers in their homes, sheltered housing, or care homes.
  2. Match reading materials to customers' interests and requests.
  3. Arrange and confirm delivery visits with customers.
  4. Return borrowed items to the library and provide fresh selections.
  5. Build positive relationships through friendly conversation and discussions about reading interests.
  6. Monitor customers' wellbeing during visits and raise any concerns with library staff when appropriate.
